COMMUNITY SERVICE

The Kiwanis Club of Middletown has a long history of community service.  From service projects in and around the City of Middletown to contributing to and partnering with local not for profit organizations, the Middletown Kiwanis Club has strived to improve their community for more than 100 years.

Wreaths Across America

The members help recognize veterans by laying wreath on their graves at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Goshen.  A very moving ceremony is conducted.

Food Drive

The members of the Middletown Kiwanis Club collect food for Thanksgiving baskets which are handed out through the Salvation Army.

Salvation Army Bell Ringing

Members ring the bell for donations for the Salvation Army. We collect for one weekend in front of the local Price Chopper supermarket and have been recognized for most money collected by a service club many times over the years.

Adopt-A-Family

Our club adopts several families in need every year for the holidays.  We collect new clothes and gifts from their “wish” list for the children, providing comfort and support during the holiday season.

Tree Dedication Project

Our Kiwanis Club works with the City of Middletown and offers the opportunity to dedicate a tree in honor of, or in memory of, an individual whose actions or deeds have positively impacted the Middletown community. The trees are planted in Middletown and are identified by a dedication plaque which will name the honoree. APPLICATIONS can be mailed to the Kiwanis Club of Middletown, PO Box 752, Middletown, NY 10940 or can be EMAILED to us. Nominations are due by March 31st each year.

Park Manor Mother’s and Father’s Days

Club members stop by Park Manor Health every Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. All mothers and fathers there are given gifts for their special day.

Soup Kitchen

The club is a strong supporter of the Guild of St. Margaret Soup Kitchen, donating both time volunteering at the facility, as well as cash donations ensuring the operation of this community cornerstone.

Warming Station

Another fixture of the community, the Middletown Greater Interfaith Council Warming Station provides shelter to homeless adults from November through March.  The Kiwanis Club has donated to the warming station and helped volunteer overnight since the warming stations creation in 2008.

Middletown Little League

The Club sponsors a local Middletown little league team.  Members attend the games to cheer our future Kiwanians on.

Buddy Benches

The Middletown Kiwanis Club has partnered with Trex to turn recycled plastic into buddy benches.  Benches are installed each year around the City of Middletown and are usually accompanied with a small ceremony dedicating the bench.

Water Station

The club sets up a water station during the annual Orange Classic 5K road race.

Run 4 Downtown

The Kiwanis Club of Middletown has sponsored and volunteered in this annual community event from the beginning.  We have taken tickets, manned a water station, and even sponsored the Taste of the Town portion of the event.

National Night Out

The National Night Out is an event sponsored by the Middletown Police Department and the City of Middletown.  This fun family night helps foster cooperation between the citizens of the community.

Free Little Library

The Club recently installed its first free Little Library at the Middletown Recreation and Parks Department.  This free library encourages a system of taking a book as you leave a book.  We are hoping to provide the joy of reading to everyone in the community.

Kiwanis One Day

Every year, Kiwanis International designates a day in April as Kiwanis One Day.  This is a day when every Kiwanis Club throughout the world plans a project that will benefit the local community.  In the past, our club has plated trees, cleaned up parks and so much more.

Would you like to help out at our next community service project?  Please check our CALENDAR for all our upcoming projects.  We would love to have you join us.
