Kiwanians are volunteers changing the world through service to children and communities. Kiwanis members help shelter the homeless, feed the hungry, mentor the disadvantaged, and care for the sick. They develop youth as leaders, build playgrounds, raise funds for pediatric research, and much more. No problem is too big or too small. Why? Because working together, members achieve what one person cannot accomplish alone. When you give a child a chance to learn, experience, dream, and succeed, great things happen!
The Mission of Kiwanis
Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world, one child and one community at a time.
Kiwanis Motto
Serving the Children of the World
Origin of the Kiwanis Name
The name “Kiwanis” means “we trade” or “we share our talents.” It was coined from an American Indian expression, Nunc Kee-wanis.
Kiwanis Membership
Kiwanis is made up of over 8,000 individual clubs in 96 countries. These clubs include more than 260,000 adult members and approximately 320,000 youths. These Kiwanis family members contribute over 18 million service hours each year.
Kiwanis Service
Each year Kiwanis clubs sponsor nearly 150,000 service projects. These service projects help raise more than $100 million dollars annually for their local communities.
Our Global Results
Members and clubs have contributed more than $80 million toward the global elimination of iodine deficiency disorders (IDD), the leading preventable cause of mental retardation. Kiwanis International is now turning its attention to the elimination of MNT or maternal/neonatal tetanus. The Eliminate Project is focused on raising $110 million dollars to eliminate a disease that kills one baby every nine minutes. And we will do it by helping some of the poorest and most underserved women and children in the world.
