YOUNG CHILDREN PRIORITY ONE

The Kiwanis Club of Middletown currently participates in the following programs that qualify under Kiwanis International’s Young Children Priority One community service program.

ABCD Backpack Program

The Kiwanis Club of Middletown is partnering with the Agri-Business Childcare Development Center at the Academy Avenue School. They serve migrant worker children ages 0-5 by providing them with a backpacks with school supplies. Each graduating child is presented with a backpack to help them transition from Nursery School to Kindergarten.

Santa Comes To Town

The Middletown Kiwanis Club brings Santa Claus to 4 child care programs in and around Middletown.  They are the Middletown Day Nursery, the Head Start Program, the AHRC program, and the ABCD program.  Along with the staff of each program, we try to bring a little joy to every child attending.  This year we expect that we will reach a total of almost 400 children.

Garnet Hospital Baby Shower

The club members collect diapers, wipes and baby clothes and donate them to the Garnet Health Medical Center.  These articles are given by the hospital to new mothers who do not have any of these items for their babies.

Dictionary Project

The Kiwanis Club of Middletown presents every third grader in the Middletown School District in the Maple Hill Elementary School, William A. Carter Elementary School, Presidential Park Elementary and Mt. Carmel Elementary School with their own dictionary.

Trunk or Treat

Every Halloween, the Middletown Kiwanis Club sets up a candy station at the local YMCA’s annual Trunk or Treat event.  This event is open to the community, always draws a large crowd, and is a hit with the children who always show up with the best costumes.

Kids Day

The Middletown Kiwanis Club sponsors a table in the annual Kids Day.  Our table offers healthy snack and toys for the children in attendance.

Sending Kids To Camp

Our Club contributes to many local youth organizations as well as sponsors campers.  Some of the local organizations we work with are the Middletown YMCA, the Town of Wallkill Boys & Girls Club, and Braeside Camp.  Kamp Kiwanis, located in Rome New York, is a camp sponsored by Kiwanis that offers camping opportunities to both children and adults with developmental disabilities.

Would you like to help us make a positive impact on the children in our community?  Please join us at our next community service PROJECT or why not attend our next MEETING.  We’d love to meet you.
